Inflow Control Devices (ICD)
Used in conjunction with premium metal-mesh screens, ICDs increase screen reliability by reducing annular velocity. With sound design in long, horizontal, open-hole completions, Weatherford’s FloReg™ ICDs are effective in reducing water and gas break-in at the well’s heel allowing the well to produce longer.
Our FloReg ICD reduces the tendency of early water or gas production, enabling the reservoir to drain more efficiently while maximizing production and recovery. It uses multiple open- and closed-flow ports to create a controlled pressure drop along the producing intervals. The pressure drop in each flow port is insensitive to fluid viscosity but sensitive to fluid density differences; therefore if water breakthrough does occur, each flow port capitalizes on the higher density of the water, which increases the pressure drop across the device. This process restricts water flow, enabling hydrocarbons to be preferentially produced.
