Weatherford’s MotarySteerable system introduces a new innovation in rotary directional control technology. With the cost impact of rotary steerable systems(RSS) currently available, the targeted bit speed (TBS) technology offers an economic alternative for rotary well trajectory control in a variety of different drilling conditions. This system provides full 3-dimensional directional control while maintaining drillstring rotation to effectively reduce drilling time and mitigate lost in hole (LIH) risk in problematic drilling environments.

The MotarySteerable system employs a positive displacement mud motor in conjunction with a proprietary synchronized motor revolutions per minute (rpm) controller and directional guidance system. The essence of the system exploits the proven reliability attained from existing Weatherford technology.
