Positive-Displacement Lift Systems

A gas well ultimately depletes to the extent that gas volume or pressure build rate is insufficient for intermittent plunger lift or foam lift to work and bottomhole pressure is inadequate to support gas-lift pressures. This is when positive-displacement lift systems are deployed. They may not be the least expensive lift systems to install and operate, but they are the only forms of lift that are able to deplete liquid-producing gas wells to their lowest possible abandonment pressure.

Electric Submersible Pumps

Sometimes gas wells are extremely deviated. They may have extremely high productivity indices. There might be high-liquid content with extremely low bottomhole pressures. ESP systems provide efficient lifting in these situations as well as in offshore environments. And in some cases, specially designed, low-cost ESPs are ideal for short-duration, high-volume requirements such as initial deliquification of shallow coalbed methane (CBM) wells.Progressing Cavity Pumps

Shallow, low-temperature, low-pressure, water-producing gas wells are ideal candidates for this form of positive-displacement lift. The relatively low cost, high volumetric efficiency and tolerance of solids make it a favorite of CBM gas well operators around the world. As an industry-leading manufacturer and distributor of PCP systems, we will help you determine when this system makes sense in your well.Reciprocating Rod Lift

Reciprocating-rod-lift pump systems are the simplest, most versatile and most commonly used artificial-lift method for deliquifying gas wells. Mechanically, they consist of three prime components: the surface unit, the rod string and the downhole reciprocating pump. Only Weatherford manufactures and provides completely integrated rod-lift systems that can be tailored to handle all types of gas wells.
