Elastomer Technology

Elastomer technology is a Weatherford core competency, as evidenced by our comprehensive offering of standard and special-purpose elastomers for diverse PCP applications. Special elastomers are available for heavy and sandy oils, high watercuts and explosive decompression (ED) resistance in gassy wells. Our engineering teams are always working to improve and develop new product to enhance your operations.

Hi-Per™ Elastomer
Weatherford designed the Hi-Per elastomer specifically to enhance the performance of PCPs in wells with high levels of aromatic fluids and gases (CO2 and others). Exposed to excessive levels of aromatics, conventional elastomers swell; and in high-gas conditions, they blister. In extensive lab and field tests, the Hi-Per elastomer has proven highly resistant to aromatics and gases. It displayed less than half the swelling of conventional high-grade nitriles and four to five times less swelling than medium-grade nitriles. And it virtually eliminated blistering under explosive decompression conditions in high-gas environments.

Use of our Hi-Per elastomer in PCP systems offers multiple benefits, including:

  • Increased production. Reduced swelling decreases operating torque, thereby enabling well production optimization.
  • Lower operating costs. Longer run-life in extreme conditions minimizes the need for well intervention and associated costs; reduced power consumption further reduces costs.

The Hi-Per Elastomer is available with most of Weatherford’s PCP models.
