The Weatherford FracShield composite plug isolates a formation for fracturing operations in both single and multiple-zone plug and perf completions.

The FracShield composite plug is effective in highly deviated, horizontal, or vertical wellbores. The plug can be drilled out using conventional drilling methods, including colied-tubing milling, using tricone or junk-mill bits.

FracShield composite plugs are available in 4 1/2-in. and 5 1/2-in. casing and in top-ball and internal-ball configurations. The top-ball design provides a large flow area for communication below the plug. This design actuates with a ball dropped from the surface, which seals off communication during fracturing operations. The internal ball design eliminates the need to pump a ball down and enables communication from below after fracturing operations.


Features

  • The molded element system enables horizontal run-in-hole speeds of up to 500 ft/min (152 m/min) without the risk of presetting the plug, which saves operational time. The backup system ensures that the element does not extrude while holding pressure.
  • The composite top slip with powder metal buttons enables quicker drill-outs than conventional metal slips.
  • The field proven lower slip design has optimized metal content to provide enhanced milling while maintaining superior anchoring.
  • The beveled bottom prevents the body from spinning, which decreases drill-out time when using multiple plugs.
  • Lightweight cuttings lift easily and circulate to the surface after drill-out.

FracShield plugs are rated at up to 300°F (148°C) and to 10,000 psi (689 Bar), which enables deploying the plug in multiple environments.
