Mobile Gripper Unit

Contact

Supports continuous rod work in shallow- to high-depth vertical, directional, and slant well configurations.

Applications

The Mobile Gripper (MG) unit provides the following services for shallow- to high-depth oil, gas, and coalbed methane (coalseam gas) wells:

  • Continuous rod service work
  • Pump changes
  • Tool deployment
  • Plug retrieval
  • Sliding-sleeve shifting

Features and Benefits

  • Built for fast and efficient operation, the MG unit is optimized for safe rig-in and rig-out in 30 minutes or less, in typical operating conditions.
  • The continuous rod gripper is designed for entrance into space-restrictive areas and easy in and out maneuverability, allowing access to a greater number of wellsites.
  • The light-weight rod guide can be assembled and disassembled in 5 minutes or less, decreasing rig-in and rig-out times.
  • The ergonomic and practical design minimizes pinch points, reducing the risk of injury.
  • In emergency situations, the advanced, secondary wellhead-rod safety clamp applies a hydraulic clamping force of up to 71,000 lb (32,200 kg), promoting safe operation.
  • Containment pans on the truck deck control spills, minimizing environmental impact.

Tool Description

The Weatherford MG unit is a compact, continuous rod service solution that features a hydraulically operated standard or heavy-duty injector and light-weight rod guide. Engineered to work with a service rig or flushby unit, the MG unit performs all COROD® continuous rod service work, as well as pump changes, rod fishing, tool deployment, plug retrieval, and sliding-sleeve shifting. The MG unit is also equipped with a knuckle boom crane, reducing the need for additional lifting equipment at the wellsite. The unit can service shallow- to high-depth oil, gas, and coalbed methane (coalseam gas) wells in vertical, directional, and slant well configurations.

Specifically designed for rapid deployment and safe operation, the MG unit has multiple features that enable a safe rig-in and rig-out in 30 minutes or less, in typical operating conditions. The light-weight rod guide has a quick-connect design and guide-mouth safety system that can be assembled and disassem-bled in as little as 5 minutes. The unit is also equipped with a COROD continuous rod injector – standard or heavy-duty – that trips rod at an efficient rate.

The Weatherford MG unit is fully equipped with an integral hydraulic power source, several types of blowout preventers, a knuckle picker, and an advanced secondary wellhead-rod safety clamp. In emergency situations, the secondary wellhead-rod safety clamp is capable of applying up to 71,000 lb (32,200 kg) of hydraulic clamping force. Also, to accommodate additional wellsite needs, the MG can be paired with other service tools, including the COROD portable forge welder–a compact, self-contained portable gas-welding apparatus mounted on the MG deck.

Configurations

The Weatherford Global Technical Support team will work with regional representatives to determine the proper Mobile Gripper configuration for specific needs.

  • Mobile Gripper unit with standard injector for shallow- to medium-depth wells in vertical, directional, and slant configurations
  • Mobile Gripper unit with heavy-duty injector for medium- to high-depth wells in vertical configurations
