Progressing cavity pump (PCP) systems are the preferred artificial-lift method in wells with high solids, heavy API oil, and high fluid volumes.

PCP systems use a rotor and stator system that, once turned, causes the cavities to progress upward and move fluid from the intake to the discharge end of the pump. The resulting continuous positive-displacement flow provides the highest volumetric efficiency of any conventional artificial-lift system. These systems are ideal for many environments such as heavy crude oil production, medium-to-light oil production, coalbed methane, and sand-laden, horizontal, slanted, and directional wellbores.

Our leak-free, low-profile, and small-footprint surface drive head systems are ideal for production environments with safety and environmental concerns. These systems use a proprietary centrifugal brake and application-specific elastomers that can produce from a diverse range of wellbore environments and prevent gas lock.

The Weatherford insertable progressing cavity pump (I-PCP) system uses the rod string to install and remove the I-PCP unit from the well.

This eliminates the need to pull and rerun the production tubing, which greatly reduces the downtime and cost associated with the following interventions:

  • Replacing a failed I-PCP unit
  • Changing the PCP size or geometry
  • Retrieving the I-PCP unit to perform a downhole service operation
  • Switching to a different artificial-lift technology

We provide wellsite intelligence with our WellPilot® system, along with downhole sensors and surface instruments designed for PCP operations.

The WellPilot flow-control technology (FCT) system prevents rod overtorque and enables the well to be pumped at maximum rates without encountering damaging pump-off conditions. The system enables further pump optimization using Weatherford downhole pressure and temperature gauges placed at the pump intake and discharge areas.

We provide desktop intelligence through our WellFlo® and LOWIS™ software packages. WellFlo models, optimizes, and troubleshoots individual wells, which enables your pump to be modeled as installed and according to the unique characteristics of the well. LOWIS life-of-well information software uses well-testing data and other information from the controller, gauges, and more to monitor, analyze, and control PCP systems.
