RETRIEVABLE COMPLETIONS, SINGLE-STRING HYDRAULIC COMPLETIONS

Discover breadth and depth tools and technology. Hydraulic-set packers are used in completions where it is undesirable or impossible to use tubing manipulation to set the packer. In offshore completions where a safety valve is mounted in the string, tubing may not be rotated because damage to control lines will result. In extended-reach or horizontal completions, torque and drag on the tubing string make tubing manipulation difficult; therefore, it is easier to set the packer with hydraulic pressure.

Some hydraulic completions that are located above a liner top use a nonsealing stinger landed in the liner-top polished bore receptacle (RBR). Hydraulic packers set above the liner top must completely pack off without the mandrel moving down, which is prevented by the liner-top locator mandrel.

Weatherford’s WH-6 and Hydrow™ I packers set without downward mandrel movement, which makes them ideal for liner-top completions.

Weatherford’s WH-6 hydraulic-set retrievable packer is designed for low-to-medium pressure applications. The short body length makes it ideal for low-angle deviations and horizontal applications. This compact, economical packer requires no mandrel movement. Straight-pull release, pressure equalization and shear-out features provide quick release and easy retrieval.

The Weatherford Hydrow I hydraulic production packer is a high-pressure, double-grip, retrievable hydraulic-set production packer, which is released by the straight pull of the tubing string. This packer features a patented upper-slip releasing system that reduces the strain required to release the slips. The Hydrow I production packer is recommended for use in well completions where the packer is set after the well has been flanged up, as well as in deviated holes, gas-lift installations and other completions where a mechanical-set packer is not suitable.
