Bucking Units

Insufficient makeup of tubular goods can lead to time-consuming additional work and expenses. Conventional systems for coupling applications lead to a number of problems, such as slow handling that causes inaccuracies, 70 percent or more of the connections must be rejected, the makeup is performed in several steps for stabbing and final torque, insufficient makeup if the pipe is slightly bent, the threads are at extreme maximum or minimum limits of the specified tolerances, deformation of the coupling due to excessive jaw pressure, and insufficient data recording of the makeup operation.

Weatherford’s custom-designed bucking systems address all of these challenges. These CAM (Coupling Application Machine) systems set new standards for the oil and gas industry. They can be used for makeup operation in pipe mills, threading facilities, repair shops and workshops, pipe yards, completion applications, and operating (lieber: active/operational/in-service) drilling rigs. The range of applications varies from semi-automated units for field operations to completely automated systems that control every aspect of pipe and coupling handling in a pipe mill.
