Revolution® Rotary Steerable System

The Revolution rotary-steerable system uses point-the-bit technology for more precise steering, longer bit life and a smoother borehole than push-the-bit systems.

The Revolution system includes the first slimhole (4 3/4-in.) rotary-steerable system to use point-the-bit technology. (Two other sizes have also been developed and commercialized—6 3/4-in. and 8 1/4-in.) Extensive testing has shown that point-the-bit mode improves overall drilling performance by providing better hole quality, longer bit life, lower bit vibration and more efficient rock cutting. Point-the-bit mode consistently steers the bit to the precise target location, extending well sections and improving reservoir optimization.

A near-bit stabilizer, which orients the axis of the drill bit with that of the hole, increases bit stability and further improves directional control and wellbore quality by reducing ledging, spiraling, tortuosity and gauge problems associated with conventional systems.
