Selective Acidizing, Testing and Water Shut-Off Operations
Weatherford’s inflatable retrievable production packer (IRPP) system uses an IRPP inflatable packer and an optional pickup unloader to seal the casing, liner, or screen below the tubing and provide a bore through the packer to access the treatment or test area. The IRPP can be run with an optional shear-out ball seat or shear plug to temporarily plug the mandrel and inflate the element. Once inflated to the proper inflation pressure for the application, the ball seat or shear plug is expelled into a catcher. Slight tension opens the pickup unloader to displace the treatment fluid close to the packer; slacking off will close it. Treatment fluid is now directed through the coiled tubing below the IRPP. Upon completion of the treatment or test, tension is applied to open the unloader and equalize the pressure across the inflatable packer; further tension (adjustable by application) is applied to shear-release the packer system.
This system is recommended for applications in which the packer system runs through production tubing and into a larger-diameter casing, liner, or screen.
The Weatherford inflatable jet packer (IJP) system uses an IJP multi-set packer and an optional pickup unloader to seal the casing, liner, or screen below the tubing and provide a bore through the packer to access the treatment area. The IJP is run with an orifice sub below the packer, which, while pumping, creates backpressure and inflates the packer to an inflation pressure determined by the rate and the size of the nozzles. A ball drop circulating sub can be run above the system to allow circulation while running in the well and for displacement of the treatment fluid to the tool. Upon completion of the treatment, when pumping has ceased, tension is applied to open the unloader to assist with the equalization of the pressure across the packer. The IJP system can then be moved to another location in the well and re-set or brought to surface.
This system is recommended for applications in which the packer system runs through production tubing and sets in a larger diameter casing, liner, or screen.
