Velocity String Installations

Weatherford offers a system for installing velocity strings below a subsurface safety valve using coiled tubing (CT).

The CT packer velocity string system uses a large-bore CT packer and Weatherford’s hydraulic disconnect or set-down disconnect to release from the velocity string once the CT packer is set. The packer and disconnect are run in the well while the CT below is temporarily plugged using a shear-pinned pump-out plug for pressure control during installation. The CT packer and the required amount of CT are run to setting depth and set using reciprocal motion of the CT run-in string. After the CT packer is set, the pump-out plug is expelled from the end of the tubing. A ball is dropped to actuate the HD shear pin hydraulic disconnect, or slack-off weight is applied to the CT packer and set-down disconnect to actuate it. The upper portion of either disconnects and the run-in string can then be returned to surface, leaving an internal profile to retrieve the system at a later date if necessary. CT packer systems are ISO 14310 V-3-certified.
