Before the development of the AutoFrac radio frequency identification (RFID)-enabled stimulation system in 2015, plug-and-perforate operations and ball-drop systems were operators’ main options for stimulating offshore wells. This new system, which has been honored at OTC with a 2017 Spotlight on New Technology Award, removes the need to set and mill out a series of plugs as used in plug-and-perf operations.
