Build More Flexibility into Every Completion

The Innovusâ„¢ frac sleeve is the market-leading sliding sleeve system with more than 500,000 stages completed worldwide. Its multicycle technology provides operational flexibility for selective access or isolation at every sleeve.

Whether targeting ultra-tight formations, higher sand concentrations, or long-term reservoir management, the Innovus system delivers greater control, lower risk, and more efficient stimulation across the life of the well.

Innovus Frac Isolation Assembly

Ready. Set. Frac.

The Innovus frac isolation assembly (FIA) is deployed on coiled tubing or jointed pipe to locate and operate Innovus frac sleeves.

Shift-Frac-Close

Using reciprocal movement of the tubing, the Innovus FIA switches between modes without any flow-activated tools or additional coil cycles required. The Innovus FIA "rides the shift" and stays in the sleeve, to ensure optimal FIA alignment for erosion resistance, screenout recovery, post-frac sleeve manipulation, and post-close sleeve position verification.

Sequential Fracturing
Press O for more options

Sequential fracturing stimulates stages from toe-to-heel. It's simple, predictable, and highly effective. However, in geologically complex formations or in situations with multiple wells, rigid sequencing can limit the ability to optimize fracture placement or respond to downhole pressures or stress interactions.

Fracturing Out of Sequence
Press O for more options

Out-of-sequence fracturing reorders stimulation stages along the wellbore. Selected stages are fractured out of order to respond to operational conditions, stress interactions, or reservoir behavior. This approach enables adaptive execution while maintaining pressure isolation between stages. Prior to Innovus sliding sleeve systems, there was no economical or reliable option to perform out-of-sequence-fracturing.

Breakdown Pressure

Out-of-sequence fracturing enables operators to manage stages with elevated breakdown pressures without abandoning the interval. By maintaining full drift and zonal isolation, operators can reattempt previously denied stages, balance stress profiles, and improve overall completion success.

Seismic Risk Management
Press O for more options

Out-of-sequence fracturing helps operators avoid seismic risk with controlled fracture initiation and uniform growth to distribute stress more gradually. If seismic monitoring indicates elevated risk, operators can suspend pumping, circulate out proppant, reclose the stage, and reposition uphole before resuming operations. This controlled approach allows stimulation to continue while actively managing seismic risk. The operator can then return to the previously skipped stages once pressure and seismic risk have been diffused.

Zipper Fracturing
Press O for more options

Zipper fracturing alternates stimulation across multiple wells on a pad by alternating operations between them. While one well is being fractured, the adjacent well is prepared for its next stage, reducing idle time and improving overall efficiency. This alternating sequence continues toe-to-heel, optimizing equipment utilization while maintaining stage isolation and operational continuity.

Challenge

Multiple wells on a single pad were located within a high-risk seismic bench. Standard toe-to-heel stage sequencing increased the likelihood of stress concentration and fault interaction.

Seismic monitoring during early-stage stimulation indicated increased magnitude in events, and continuing linear sequence progression posed a risk of triggering a larger event and causing an operational shutdown.

Solution

Once seismic activity was detected, the operator moved uphole, away from the seismic zone and continued operations from mid-point to heel. This method allowed the operator to continue successful frac operations along the same wellbore.

After the pressure and seismic activity diffused, the operator was able to return to stimulate the skipped stages.

Result

By selectively stimulating stages out of order, the operator redistributed stress more gradually across the reservoir and maintained continuous operations without having to abandon any stages.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Innovus sliding sleeves used for?

The Innovus sliding sleeves are used to provide selective access to different zones in a wellbore. They allow operators to open or close specific intervals for stimulation, production, or isolation without requiring complex workover operations.

How are the Innovus sliding sleeves actuated?

The Innovus sliding sleeves are typically actuated using the Innovus frac isolation assembly, run on coiled tubing, workstring, or drillpipe, depending on the well design and operational requirements.

Can the Innovus sliding sleeves be closed and re-opened after initial actuation?

Yes. The Innovus sliding sleeves can be shifted repeatedly (opened or closed) over the life of the well, balancing between stimulation, production, isolation, re-fracturing and/or injection. In addition, this functionality allows for out-of-sequence fracturing, managing flow profiles, and isolating underperforming or watered-out intervals.

What types of wells are Innovus sliding sleeves suitable for?

The Innovus sliding sleeves are suitable for a wide range of applications, including vertical, deviated, and horizontal wells, and can be deployed in both conventional and unconventional developments. They support producer and injector well configurations across oil and gas, geothermal, and CCUS applications, and are fully customizable to meet specific project requirements, including size, pressure ratings, and actuation preferences.
