Eliminating Extra Trips in Five-Well Campaign

Single-Fit RSS Solution Streamlines Batch Drilling, Delivers USD 1 Million in Savings

Objectives

  • Batch drill the 6 1/8-in section in one bit run across five development producer wells while meeting reservoir targets and directional requirements in the G1 field, Gulf of Thailand.
  • Achieve the planned IADC ROP target of 82 ft/h [25 m/h].
  • Acquire real-time and recorded LWD data while drilling the section.

Our Approach

  • Replaced the planned conventional motor-plus-AGS bottomhole assembly (BHA) approach with a single-fit Magnus® Saker RSS 475 BHA to avoid additional trips, rig time, cost, and operational risk.
  • Maintained continuous directional control, precise wellbore placement, and LWD acquisition using the Magnus Saker RSS along with the HEL hostile-environment-logging measurement-while-drilling system, BAP bore and annular pressure sensor, HAGR high-temperature azimuthal gamma ray tool, TVM total vibration monitor, and the IDS integrated directional sonde.

Value to Customer

  • Saved 126.8 operational hours—approximately 5.2 rig days—by eliminating additional BHA trips, saving shoe-drillout time, and improving overall ROP versus plan.
  • Delivered an estimated USD 1 million in operational cost savings while reducing complexity, nonproductive time (NPT) exposure, and execution risk across the batch drilling campaign.
  • Surpassed the planned IADC ROP target and KPI expectations, achieving a maximum of 108 ft/h (33 m/hr).
  • Unlocked drilling efficiencies in future and similar drilling applications.
