We are pleased to announce the release of CygNet version 9.2!

This new release brings with it some excellent new IoT features such as our new IoT EIE and IoT Sparkplug EIE. Both of these drivers use the MQTT protocol to subscribe to data from an MQTT publisher. We’ve also added an OPC Lufkin EIE and an OPC Weatherford EIE which allow you to collect data from these devices via OPC.

Canvas: A Re-introduction

February 23, 2018 / 0 comments / in Canvas  General  / by Walter Goodwater

I demoed Canvas for the first time at the CygNet users’ conference back in 2016. Our user community had been asking us for an updated HMI for a long time, so the initial reception was encouraging, though with a few exceptions (“ugh, is that really the icon you guys are using?” and “it’s so bright, are you trying to blind me?” come to mind). We were excited to get this new HMI into your hands as soon as possible. Well, after two years, a few crises, a disaster or two, plus a handful of adjustments to schedule, requirements, and priority, not to mention my family’s first baby – my awesome son Malcolm – we are finally ready for Canvas’ first release.

FMS Service and the SQL Server Database Relationship

January 2, 2018 / 0 comments / in Measurement  / by Bruce Detter

This blog is intended for the FMS service operator to gain understanding of the relationship between the FMS service and the SQL Server FMS database.

When working with the FMS service and the SQL Server database connection it is important to note that each task will run in an executable thread within the executing multi-threaded FMS Service. When data is required from the database, each thread will initiate a unique session with the database to read/write the specific data. It is possible, for some long running task with minimal to no activity,  for the database to close the session as part of the database service manager optimization processing. The FMS service will detect this state and cause the session to re-open when the FMS Service requires database access.

January 2, 2018 / 0 comments / in General  Tech Bulletin  / by CygNet Blog Admin

We are pleased to announce the release of CygNet version 9.0.

This release includes the first release Canvas, the new HMI development tool. Canvas has a companion application, Canvas View, that is read-only. The CygNet blog contains webinars to introduce you to the features of Canvas. Of course, we will continue to add features and tools to Canvas in subsequent releases. And don’t forget that you can make your own custom controls for Canvas. One question that we’ve been asked a lot is will Canvas be able to show a CygNet Studio screen and the answer is yes, there is a control for that! We do realize that CygNet Studio and Vision will continued to be used for quite some time we’ve made enhancements and provided fixes for it as well.
