I improved this screen’s performance by 1000% and so can you! (part 1)

Recently, I was asked to assist with a customer support call regarding a poorly performing CygNet Studio screen.  Having just participated in Dan Snyder’s CygNet Database Service Diagnostics and Performance Tuning breakout session at this year’s WESC, I felt more than ready to take on this challenge.  Surprisingly, the actual diagnostic and remediation process required was much more involved than I expected.  My hope is that by describing, over the next several posts, the detailed process I went through to decrease the screen load time from 30 seconds to 3 seconds, you may come to understand the nuanced considerations required to craft and verify the most efficient solution for your particular needs.

Boost CygNet Performance with SSDs

Newer solid-state drives (SSDs) offer significant performance improvements over traditional hard disk drives (HDDs) and should be considered as an option for your CygNet services.

This post (also posted as a Technical Note on the CygNet Support portal) describes both types of data storage devices, the most useful performance benchmark for comparing HDDs and SSDs, and recommendations for configuring SSDs in a CygNet system.

WESC 2015 Breakout: Optimizing Device Communications and Analyzing UIS Performance

March 12, 2015 / 0 comments / in WESC  / by CygNet Blog Admin

This breakout session will discuss how device communications work within CygNet, specifically with an Allen Bradley device, and what can be done to insure the least amount of network traffic is generated for the data required. We will also talk about how to analyze UIS performance to ensure the least amount of work is being done for the data required.
